Zodwa leads this 5 hour bicycle tour, uncovering the public street art, local cuisine and history of the Braamfontein precinct. Interact with locals, eat street food and learn about the dark history of the City of Gold.
Ride around the historical downtown neighbourhood and learn about the culture of the area. Previously delapidated, see the urban regeneration taking place in this vibey area. Weave between fashion boutiques, museums, art galleries, food vendors and not to mention... the oldest bar in the city! We will take you to Constitutional Hill which is significant in painting a picture of the dark politics and black oppression that was endured. It was historically a place of degradation where prisoners were forced to live in unimaginably awful conditions. The prison was closed in 1983, "leaving a scar on Joburg's metropolis - a bleak reminder of our painful past". The people of South Africa have now reclaimed the space as a site for creative activism. A 1 hour guided tour of Constitutional Hill will take you through the Women's Jail, Number Four section and the Constitutional Court.
